How to Decorate a Ceiling with Tulle & Lights
- 1). Buy one bolt of tulle fabric from a crafts or fabric store. White is a popular color for tulle, but you may choose any color you like.
- 2). Stand on a step ladder (if necessary) to measure the ceiling from one corner of the room to the center. Stretch the tape measure on a diagonal line, and allow for some slack.
- 3). Add six inches to the measurement and use standard scissors to cut four equal lengths of tulle to that size.
- 4). Stand on the step ladder again to place the tulle on the ceiling, starting at the corners of the room. Use thumbtacks to hold the fabric in place or, if possible, wrap the ends of the fabric around ceiling rafters.
- 5). String the tulle from each corner to the center of the room, bringing all inside ends of the fabric together.
- 6). Place thumbtacks at the end of each length of tulle to hold them in the center of the ceiling. Add loops or streamers of colored ribbon to hide the center where the fabric comes together. Alternately, wrap the ends of the tulle around ceiling rafters to avoid using tacks.
- 7). String rope lights or icicle lights inside the draped tulle, running the lights down all four lengths of the fabric. Run the cords for the lights down the walls, covering them with flowers, tulle or an alternate decoration so that they blend into the decorations.
- 8). Plug the cords into electrical sockets to light up the decor.
