Elliptical Machines and How They Rank As Exercise Equipment

Back in the 80's the fitness craze really took off, and models, celebrities and all kinds of 'experts' came out of the woodwork promoting their high energy and in most cases 'high impact' videos.
It wasn't long before people starting feeling the effects of a lot of high impact movements.
This typically came in the form of chronic pain to the back, hips and/ or knees.
We learned that we could do a routine of any kind with low impact and still get a heart pumping working and muscle conditioning with a lot less stress on these joints.
The elliptical trainer and cross ramp style machines are perfect examples of an excellent workout for the heart and an intense calorie burning routine.
These machines are designed to allow for a natural movement that will benefit leg muscles and get your heart rate up.
Several styles also allow for arm movement or a stationary arm setting for someone who may be just starting out.
With the arms up to your shoulders it gets your heart pumping and this will be a full body workout.
Your first few shots at this you will see that it is challenging.
Another nice feature is that it is a change from what may be your typical cardio.
Many of us walk, use a treadmill or get on a bike.
The treadmill can irritate your back and knees and long term biking really is a pain in the butt! Don't get me wrong, these are great however over time they can becoming boring and with any exercise program change is good, actually it's great.
You want some variety to work your body in different ways and most importantly to keep things interesting.
If you get bored you tend to lose your motivation.
Regular exercise is good in any shape or form.
The key is to find things you enjoy and things that challenge your body without causing it stress or pain.
If we get bored or something becomes painful; and not in the good way, we will lose interest in doing it very quickly.
Rotate around the cardio room if you have the opportunity.
Warming up with an elliptical training I find that it's very effective at getting my heart rate up quickly and with the legs and arms in motion my body is ready for my resistance training making it a very effective piece of workout equipment.
