The second Presidential election under the NATO occupation was held in Afghanistan on August 20th. The result is still waited. The Independent Election Commission (IEC) released preliminary results from 91.6 percent of polling stations with 54.1 percent of valid votes cast in favor of President Hamid Karzai for a total of 2,959,093 votes. The preliminary results show Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, President Karzai's main competitor, receiving 28.3 percent of valid votes for a total of 1,546,490 votes. Based on data released by the IEC on September 2, it is likely that at least 2,000 polling stations will be audited which could amount to more than 450,000 votes.

The results from 83 polling stations in Kandahar, Paktika and Ghazni provinces, out of 447 complained have been invalidated by the Afghan Electoral Complaints Commission, an independent body. According to Daud Ali Najafi, the commission's chief electoral officer, some 800 polling stations were fear to be faked.

The UN's chief representative in Afghanistan, Kai Eide has asked the Afghan election officials to exclude all ballots from the vote count that have evidence of irregularities and these votes will be in a considerable number which could affect the result. Under the provisions of the Afghan Constitution, it is important that the President must be elected by receiving more than 50% of the votes, to avoid a run-off and in recent election. Although Karzai is almost close to that target, but the counting is still in progress and he could face some serious problems crossing that mark.

In recent world history, in almost every State, the election under the government as party to it is seemed as null and void, and of course it has a sound reason. It is almost impossible to believe that the sitting government will not interfere. In case of Afghanistan where the democratic system is nurturing, Karzai is there as President for almost eight years. He was brought by the invaders soon after the fall of Taliban and elected as President in first election in year 2004. It was perceived by most of the expert on Afghan related issues and the picture today is not far different.

President Karzai has also termed the election fraud as an inevitable in a budding democracy. Krazai is famous for his "seasoned truth" telling and when ever he has spoken alike, he has derived more benefits. In a recent statement he said that United States government was secretly attacking him because she wanted him to be more obedient. Now it is not hard to understand that whenever the US stopped criticizing him, what will be its meaning?

Commenting on the situation Abdullah Abdullah during an interview said:

"If the election complaints commission goes through the complaints and after the fraudulent votes are taken out, whatever would be doubtful, I'll accept that. But at the moment these numbers which have been shown… are included in those numbers, which make Hamid Karzai's results exceed 50 per cent. That's not acceptable. I don't see the future for this sort of leadership."

The views of former Foreign Minister before and after the election are signing towards a Tehran Election like situation in Afghanistan, which will undoubtedly increase the miseries of Afghans.

Other the other hand the Taliban who has threatened the Afghans to avoid electoral process, was partly successive in their claims. One senior Western diplomat claimed that about 15 percent of the polling sites in Pashtoon areas, never opened on Election Day as no activity witnessed there and not a single person came there to cast his or her vote. Taliban's view now seems a sensible one in context of Allied Forces' occupation in Afghanistan as the Afghans do not believe in that promises in years 2009, which are just promises since 2001. The occupied forces which had termed their invasion as the protection of Afghan citizens from evil, granting them basic rights, allowing them towards freedom of expression, movement and to live, and giving them a right to rule. But today the American soldiers are using Afghans as shield, in other words they are protected by those who were guaranteed to be protected.

Killing of innocent persons has become a routine and the recent example is NATO air strikes in Kunduz province where at least 90 people were killed, most of which were civilians. There is countless number of such incidents and it has a certain impact over the minds of Afghans. They are raising questions about their government authority and reason of foreign occupation. It might be the cause that the number of supporters and power of Taliban is growing day by day. This fact has been already accepted by ISAF. The confidence of Taliban during their attacks highlights the reality.

Till May 2009, the number of total killed in Afghanistan was 1064, including 682 American troops and 382 other coalition forces, since Sep 2001. These figures are growing day by day and the governments of most coalition forces has become under tremendous pressure for killing their youth in a mean less war.

Now the allegations of rigging and fraud, made by independent authorities will definitely raise the question vis-à-vis the presence of US-led NATO forces. It is the ground reality, no matter how much it is tried to be covered by propagations and claims.

It is not necessary that leader of the occupied forces and world champion of Democracy had never realized these facts. What is reason that super power did deliver in Afghanistan during their eight long years? The simplest reply is that there would be no reason to stay here then. The Obama's administration has already pointed that they would stay there for a long period of time. But it is not important to happen every time, what is said or desired for.
