Signs That You Are Going to Be Fired
- If you feel completely uninformed and out of the loop about everything going on in the office, it might be a sign that you're about to be let go for good. From increasingly bad sales numbers to good old-fashioned office romance gossip, the less you know about the inner workings of your office, the higher the possibility that you're going to be receiving a pink slip, and soon.
- If your supervisor or boss recently has given you a warning, then it is very likely that you're going to be fired. Many of these warnings come in "ultimatum" form. If your boss informs you that unless he seems major improvement in your work performance you're going to be let go, you essentially are on probation and your days in the office probably are numbered.
- If you recently caused a big mistake on the job, then your job very well could be (and most likely is) on the line. This doesn't describe a minor error, such as spilling coffee on the floor in the lounge. This means anything from losing a key account to using company petty cash to buy your own lunches.
- If your boss or coworkers have made comments regarding your unpleasant personality or attitude, then it is apparent that the general feeling toward you at work is not positive. If people generally try to avoid you at work, and the consensus is that you are difficult to get along with, you probably should start looking elsewhere for employment -- and fast. If you generally feel that you do not fit in or get along with your peers at work, signs of trouble are looming in the horizon.
- Most employers conduct periodic performance reviews of their employees. If you have recently undergone a review and your results were less than favorable, it probably will have a big effect on your standing in the office.
- If you have a tense and overall negative relationship with your boss, your relationship with your company is probably going to be short-lived. If you have zero rapport with your boss and never talk, it does not bode well for your future at the company. Another sign is if your boss is becoming more and more critical about your work, and more and more interested in monitoring and micromanaging your position. Lastly, if your boss is constantly putting it on you to conduct menial tasks that no one else wants to do, then your job is probably on its last legs.
- If a large part of your department has been taken over by impressive new employees, and your performance and career history seem to pale in comparison, you should begin your job search before they get the chance to fire you.
