    Firewall

    • Antivirus programs have a firewall that is set up to block certain sites, programs and networks. To connect to LimeWire, you will need to change and/or update your security firewall to prevent LimeWire from being blocked. You can do this in two different ways: You can go into your antivirus program and change the settings so that LimeWire is an exception to firewall blocking. If you do not have this option, you can turn off your firewall for the amount of time that you will be connected to LimeWire.

    Security Issues

    • There are many different third-party security programs that may have been installed on your computer by the manufacturer that may be blocking you from connecting to LimeWire. If this is the case, you will need to disable them. You can do this by right-clicking on the security program from the system tray at the bottom of your screen. From there you can choose to disable the security system or change the system preferences to allow LimeWire to connect through the program.

    Unreliable Conections

    • If you still can't connect to LimeWire, the problem may be an unreliable connection. In this case, you will need to completely uninstall and reinstall LimeWire. To start this process, you will need to completely shut down LimeWire. This will include shutting down LimeWire from the taskbar and system tray as well as from the program itself. Open your Control Panel and the "Add/Remove Programs" option. From there, you can delete and uninstall LimeWire. You will also need to delete LimeWire from the start menu's "Explore" folder. Restart your computer, then reinstall LimeWire from the LimeWire website.
