How to Determine a Maytag Washer's Age
- 1). Locate the serial number on the washer. The serial number is on a label in at least three different areas. Look for the label on the back of the washer behind the control panel, under the bottom right corner of the washer lid or on the back lower left of the main cabinet.
- 2). Locate the last two letters of the serial number. These letters, known as the "date code," represent the month and year the washer was manufactured.
- 3). Obtain a list of Maytag date codes by contacting the company through its website, Maytag.com, or by calling 800-344-1274 in the United States or 800-688-2002 in Canada. Maytag uses the same letter date coding on all its appliances.
- 4). Find the year of manufacture by finding the first letter of your date code on the year code list. For example, the letter "T" indicates the unit was built in 1987. Match the second letter of your date code with the month code list. If your second letter is "K," for instance, the month of manufacture is May. Once you have the manufacturing date of the unit you are able to determine its age.
