How to Hang Tomato Plants in a Planter
- 1). Install the planter bracket with heavy-duty 3-inch screws, using a screwdriver. The bracket may have to hold 50 lbs or more when the planter is filled and watered.
- 2). Cut a 2-1/2-inch-diameter hole in the center of a coffee filter with a pair of scissors. Thread the top of the seedling tomato plant through the hole in the coffee filter, so that the plant is wearing the coffee filter like a skirt.
- 3). Thread the seedling and filter through the bottom of the planter from the inside, so that the top of the plant protrudes from the bottom of the planter.
- 4). Add potting soil to the planter, carefully around the plant's roots, pressing it down lightly as you go. Continue until two-thirds full. Add an inch or two of organic compost, and cover with more soil until the planter is full.
- 5). Hang the planter on its bracket. Water thoroughly until water drains from the bottom of the planter.
