Kids & Cars Safety Act of 2007
- The Cameron Gulbransen Kids and Cars Safety Act makes the secretary of transportation responsible for establishing standards and monitoring implementation of rules designed to decrease the number of childhood injuries and deaths in non-traffic incidents.
- The act requires that power windows in cars must reverse direction and roll back down if an obstruction is detected. It establishes a standard regarding rear visibility to ensure that drivers are able to see children behind the vehicle. The act also dictates that service brakes be used when the car is parked to prevent children from causing the car to roll away by disengaging the gear shift.
- The act established a child safety information program. The program is responsible for "collecting non-traffic incident data, informing parents about these hazards to children and ways to mitigate them, as well as making this information available to the public through the Internet and other means," according to the act.
