How Do You Make a Mold That Can Withstand Heat?
- 1). Shake the mold release spray and mist the original, holding the can 6 to 8 inches from the surface. Coat well.
- 2). Mix the silicone and urethane in the bucket. It should be a ratio of 10 parts silicone to 1 part urethane. Stir well.
- 3). Dip the paint brush in the mixture, and brush a thin coat on the original. Cover all areas completely.
- 4). Add several drops of thixotropic additive to the mixture. One-half percent is the recommended amount, but three to four drops are plenty to thicken the silicone in most cases. Stir well.
- 5). Brush on several more coats, until the rubber is at least 1/4-inch thick in all places.
- 6). Allow the mold to cure in a warm, dry area for 24 hours. Grip the edge of the silicone mold and slowly peel it back from the original.
