    Hearing or Vision Impairments

    • Students with vision impairments should target scholarships like the American Action Fund Scholarship, which gives $10,000 to legally blind students, according to the Disaboom website. The Terry Blessing Scholarship gives $2,000 to legally blind students with a GPA of at least 3.5. Deaf or hearing impaired students should apply for funding from the Scholarship Trust for the Hearing Impaired, which awards scholarships of varying amounts. Students must estimate their cost of tuition when applying for this award.

    Diseases

    • If you have dealt with -- or are still dealing with -- a disease, you may be eligible for scholarships for people with your condition. The Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults National Scholarship Program gives $2,5000 each year to 10 students who have had cancer and need financial assistance to attend college. The Diabetes Scholars Foundation awards five scholarships of $5,000 to freshmen students with diabetes. The organization gives a number of other awards of $1,000 to $5,000 to student athletes; students who live in Colorado, Ohio and Michigan; students majoring in health care and students with diabetes.

    Mobility Handicaps

    • Some scholarships target students with mobility issues. The SpinLife Innovation in Motion Scholarship provides $500 to two students who use wheelchairs. The 1-800-Wheelchair Scholarship Fund gives awards of $500 to students who articulately discuss mobility issues in an essay, with priority given to students with mobility disabilities.

    Learning Disabilities

    • Some awards like the P. Buckley Moss Endowed Scholarship specifically support students with learning disabilities. This award of at least $1,500 goes to a visual arts student with a diagnosed learning disability. The Marion Huber Learning Through Listening Award provides three scholarships of $6,000 and three scholarships of $2,000 to students who belong to the Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic organization and have learning disabilities, according to the National Center for Learning Disabilities website.

    Veterans

    • Veterans with disabilities should apply for scholarships such as the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association's (AFCEA) Disabled War Veterans Scholarship. This fund provides $2,500 to war veterans who have disabilities from active duty. Recipients must major in a field of the sciences or mathematics (see Resources).
