This is the last part of my "How To Do a Leg Kick" Guide.
Now we'll cover what both your legs should be doing.
Your supporting leg:
  • Always put your weight on it.
    A common mistake in the leg kick is to lean back too much.
    This leaves you off balance and robs the leg kick of power.
    to avoid this, keep your weight on your lead leg.
     
  • Don't lock your knee.
    It's a lot harder to get a solid leg kick off when your supporting knee is locked out.
    by bending it you can both turn your hips faster and also stay in balance more easily.
  • Bend your knee as little or as much as you have to.
    The more you bend it, the more distance you can cover with your striking leg.
    The straighter you keep it, the higher you'll be, which forces you to come closer to your opponent to land the kick.
    So it all depends on the distance between you too.
Your striking leg: There are a couple of possibilities here:
  • Keep your leg totally straight.
    This is like swinging a stick: the stick stays totally straight  and your arms generate the power it delivers.
    You can do the same thing with the leg kick.
  • Bend your knee a little.
    "Don't bend it at a right angle, just a little bent is enough.
    Try this option with the full hip turn for maximum power.
  • Immobilize your knee when the kick lands.
    If it were to bend upon impact, you'll lose a lot of power.
    So tighten your leg muscles hard to avoid this.
