Look across any part of rural Norfolk and there is bound to be a landscape to capture on canvas.
The boating lanes of the Norfolk Broads and the wonderful wildlife and natural backdrop are popular with artists and photographers as well, whilst many of the coastal scenes are also regularly captured by water colour painters.
Many of the North Norfolk hotels adorn their rooms and public areas with paintings that reflect the Norfolk landscape and some Norfolk hotels have been known to specifically commission artists to portray certain scenes.
The wide open coastal marshes and wetlands are popular with artists, mesmerised by the fabulous light, the wonderful colours and the big open skies that Norfolk has to offer, not surprisingly, many visitors come to Norfolk with their brushes and easel to spend a few days enjoying painting the scenery.
Norfolk is quite a large county but the unhurried pace of life seems to make everything seem within easy reach.
If you are staying in one of the Norfolk luxury hotels you will never be far away from one of the more attractive areas of the county, but painting in Norfolk is not new and there is the renowned Norwich School of artists which included famous painters such as John Sell Cotman and John Crome.
Their work, and that of other local artists of note, can be seen in the Norwich Castle Museum and Art Gallery.
If you are staying in one of the hotels North Norfolk has for a holiday painting and enjoying the Norfolk ambience, Norwich is still within easy reach, and if you fancy a break from the easel for a day, or the weather or light is not right for the scene you wish to capture, a trip into Norwich to look at the art collections in the museum is time well spent.
Inevitably, many of the more popular locations with painters is out in the countryside, on the Broads, or in some of the coastal areas, but parts of Norwich and the market towns of the county also have some timeless scenes that are perfect for those wishing to express themselves in water colours.
