How to Enable Multiple Desktops With SLI
- 1). Purchase an SLI-ready NVidia video card. You will need at least two NVidia video cards with identical graphics processing units.
- 2). Power down your computer. Remove all cables and peripherals.
- 3). Remove the left side panel while facing the front of the computer case. Unscrew the screws that secure the panel, if applicable. Your case may feature notches, latches or screws. Consult your case or computer manufacturer's instructions if uncertain.
- 4). Fasten the anti-static wrist bracelet's clip to a metal object, and strap on the bracelet.
- 5). Locate the PCI-Express slot closest to your previously installed video card. If you are installing both cards at once, locate two available PCI-Express slots.
- 6). Unscrew the slot cover. Place it to the side. Repeat if installing two cards.
- 7). Remove the NVidia graphics card from its anti-static bag. Match the pins on the card with the PCI-Express slot.
- 8). Insert the card. It should slide easily into place, and you will hear a click when you've seated it. Do not force the card. If you have problems seating the card, remove it, line up the card with the slot again and reinsert it. Repeat this process if installing two cards at once.
- 9). Secure the card by screwing in the slot cover screw you removed earlier. Repeat if adding two cards at once.
- 10
Connect the PCI-Express power cable from the power supply to the input on the card. Repeat if installing two cards. - 11
Attach the SLI connector bridge to both cards by inserting it into the golden slots on the top of both cards. - 12
Replace the side panel. Replace any removed screws and secure the panel. - 13
Remove the bracelet. Reattach any removed cables and peripherals. Plug in the display device into the originally installed card, if applicable. - 14
Boot up the computer. Windows will automatically detect your SLI-capable system. Click on the pop-up bubble or on your NVidia icon in your task bar. Click on "Enable SLI technology (Recommended)." - 15
Download and install the NVidia GeForce 180 release driver if you do not have it currently installed. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the drivers. (You cannot use SLI in conjunction with multiple monitors with an earlier driver.) - 16
Connect your secondary monitor or display to the same card that features the primary display. In other words, one video card should have both monitors connected to it, while the other video card has no devices inserted. - 17
Right-click on the desktop. Left-click on "Personalize." - 18
Choose "Display settings." - 19
Click on the monitor labeled "2." - 20
Click on "Extend the desktop onto this monitor." Click "Apply," then choose "OK."
