Television Production, New Producers Lesson Nine Part Two
They are new to the field and they are eager to work.
Most of them are happy to do any job on the set and most of them are capable of doing any job.
Some suggestions that I have for working with new producers:
- Smile, introduce everyone and remember that everyone is equal.
There are no stars in this business; all producers are equal whether they have been with community access for ten months or for ten years.
Once you remember that important factor, it is easy to treat everyone with the respect that they deserve.
Yes, there are some seasoned producers and there are producers who have an extraordinary amount of talent, but these producers took the same courses that the new producers took and one day every one will be seasoned.
Rule 1, respect for all, equal respect.
Producers do not dish out respect according to the years that a producer has been with the studio. - If there are new producers who are reluctant or nervous about doing their first show or helping out in their first show, invite these producers, and other producers also, to be in the audience.
This makes everyone comfortable and they see what is happening on the set without the responsibility of the show for the first time.
There will be time for everyone to help so do not push anyone beyond their limits.
Yes, it is some seasoned producers goal or talent to push people beyond their limits, but I believe that this should not be done on the producers first visit to a taped or live show.
There is always time later for setting goals, and for working hard.
The producer's first experience should be a comfortable.
And hopefully every experience after that one will be comfortable also. - Treat others how you would want to be treated.
That should be your goal, always. - If you have notes or flyers give them out freely.
And I will put them in other articles regarding television production.
Meanwhile, since there are new producers or potential producers reading this, I offer some ideas and suggestions for you.
Take only those that are helpful to you.
- Try to remember that everyone began right where you are, so there is no need to be nervous or apprehensive when doing your own show or when helping others do their shows.
- As goes for all producers, seasoned and new, respect is of the utmost importance.
Treat everyone equally and fairly. - Ask for referrals when you are doing your first show.
Ask some of the seasoned producers if they can recommend producers who might help you.
- A great way to find producers for your own show is by volunteering for someone else's show first before you are ready to do your own.
You will be introduced to some great seasoned and new producers. - Bring your notes with you if that helps you.
Everyone learns differently.
Some can remember everything, and others, well, they just need notes.
I am one of those people who need notes so I have no problem with others using notes or aids either.
