The color of your entry door says a lot about your style. A bright, bold color, such as red, is the mark of one who isn't afraid to be a bit daring, whereas a white door may mean your style is a bit more subdued and relaxed. The color of your entry door can also help attract potential home buyers and bring them in to see what the rest of your home looks like. Although it may seem like a simple matter, choosing the right color for your front door is an important component of your home's overall look.

    Red

    • A red door will likely attract attention to your home. This bold color is often used on homes that are decorated in contemporary or modern styles. If your home has a southern style, a cottage feel or an antique approach, red is likely not the best option for you. Red is often a recommended color if you want to increase your house's Feng Shui, states the Easy Feng Shui website. Feng Shui is the Asian art of using colors and placement to enhance your quality of life. Painting your door red is thought to bring strong energy into your home. However, some Feng Shui designers recommend only painting your door red if it faces south.

    White

    • White doors often promote a relaxed style that is not too daring and tends to go with the flow. A white door also works well with almost any house color. One drawback of having a white door, however, is that dirt and grime are highly noticeable. Being outside, your door will naturally accumulate a grimy buildup. If you decide to paint your entry door white, you should plan on cleaning it with soap and water regularly.

    Wood

    • Natural wood-grain doors are a classic choice that fits with almost any style. Wooden doors are available in a variety of designs. Although wooden doors are also available in a range of colors, shades of brown often work well with most house colors. Choose a wooden door that matches or complements the color scheme of your house. For instance, most light colors, such as white, go well with both light and dark shades of brown. A darker house, however, may look better when it features a dark brown door.
