    Bay Windows

    • Sometimes referred to as bow windows, bay windows come out from the wall. Typically, the middle window is a larger than the two small windows that flank it. Bow windows can have more than the three sections that the bay window consists of. Both bays and bows are usually in casement style, and the bay can also be double hung.

    Casement

    • A casement window can be opened by a slider bar or a crank. They are hinged to the side of the window jamb. Many window styles are made in this type of window, including the bow and bay windows.

    Double and Single Hung

    • Double hung windows can open from the bottom or top and can move up and down. The bottom of the window rests on the window sill, the top of the window rests along the top of the window jamb. Single hung windows are made the same way, but only open in one direction; usually it can only open from the bottom.

    Jalousies

    • Jalousies are slates made of glass and attached to a metal frame. They work like a shutter in the way that the glass slats open and close. In some cases, they are referred to as louver windows.
