    Size

    • Crimson king will mature 30 to 40 feet tall, according to the Missouri Botanical Garden. Its branched canopy also grows 20 to 40 feet wide. MBG also comments that this variety is a bit more compact in form than the wild species of Norway maple.

    Growth Rate

    • The University of Connecticut lists Norway maple as a fast-growing tree, especially when young. Comparatively speaking, crimson king grows more slowly than the wild form of Norway maple. Expect this variety to still be a relatively fast grower compared to many other maple trees.

    Considerations

    • Overall, crimson king is widely tolerant to various soils and climates that are not overly hot and humid in summer. Growth of this tree will be faster and lushest in fertile, moist soils as compared to trees planted in sandy, unirrigated garden locations. Tolerant of drought, MBG states it has a shallow root system, which benefits from irrigation.
