Budget Web Design

So, does Budget web design mean cheap and nasty? Does this mean you want a cheap site that doesn't have the time spent on it to help it perform well? Or does this mean it will be so basic your old spectrum 48k(with the rubber keyboard) will be able to run it from the tape deck?

Difficult question really, is budget web design a cheap option by which you get what you pay for? To help answer or shed some light on this; I can only speak from experience of the industry and there are a lot of bedroom type web designers out there. Some are students trying to make a bit of beer money and some are people trying to get a foot in the door and then there are the large blue chip type companies who create you a one/two page site with a decent domain for very little or on a low pay monthly rate. It's the large blue chip businesses like oneandone and BTâEUR¦lets not forget YELL!! Who give the least value for the client's money. I only say this because a lot of our current clients have a site from one of them and either forget its there - well they get no clicks! - Or it's just lost somewhere in the serps. I've yet to find one out there that has performed to the level that was told over the phone. I must say that this is likely down to the fact no SEO has been taken into account other than placing it on a keyword rich domain and hoping for the best. On page and off page is ignored and no advice given; to me this is pretty pointless and only sucks the money from the smaller SME's who need the business and are willing to do a sterling job to get the customers confidence/good ranking/good quality coded website and well deserved payment. Obviously it's no good for the customer either, which is why they end up coming to us or another SME web design company.

I know why BT or even Yell create the microsites for clients; they can get money coming in on the drip, little work involved and more importantly they can blind the client with technology and promise the world, with a large sales team they can cover the UK with ease. They don't need to deliver a great deal either. My issue is that they don't provide the right advice and deliver very little of any worthâEUR¦.appreciated the price is low but this only bottoms out the web design market and takes the money from us. It reminds me of the large supermarket chains swamping the small towns with large supermarkets that take customers from small fruit and veg shops and butchers.

So in my opinion if you want a website that actually performs then avoid the Yell's and BT's of the world and choose a well recognised web company beit us or any of our competitors. Perhaps try a smaller web design agency; they can offer the more personal touch.
