Learning various hospital procedures and medical fundamentals can be a great asset when the balloon goes up.
Not only will you be a more useful benefit to your survival group but you and your group will certainly feel a bit safer knowing that one of you have the knowledge to help the others.
Having COPD my wife and I have learned a great many things which relate to medical care.
I had been previously hospitalized several times due to my health but managed to pull through with no major problems.
Although he medical professionals had given up on me with my COPD and told me to learn to live with it I never the less decided that was not what I wanted to hear.
Now after several years and no medical assistance I am able to function very close to normal.
So what it amounts to is "No, I don't have to learn to live with it!" This perhaps was a blessing in disguise since it is a good set of skills to know for the times that you may really need it the most.
The local hospital systems are likely to crash or to shut down for a variety of reasons during crisis situations.
These reasons will vary from bad weather conditions, rioting in the streets, an over abundance of patients that are simply placing a great strain on the system, perhaps martial law has been declared for your area or the military may be battling foreign forces in your immediate vicinity or even your city or neighborhood may have been placed on a quarantined status.
The lack of power can also drain a hospital of its ability to function properly.
Supplies may not have arrived as scheduled or the personnel have decided to remain home with their families as opposed to going to the clinic to work.
You on the other hand may be located in a remote location and perhaps your condition or your friend's condition is such that you can not get to the local hospital.
Conceivably the roads may be completely impassable preventing you from making your trip to the hospital or clinic.
This may be due to sniper activity along the road or explosive charges installed at various locations which would make the trip extremely dangerous.
In such a case it would be to your advantage to know how to care for the injured and sick at home.
The internet is loaded with various classes where you can learn some valuable skills for caring for the sick or ill people in your group.
In addition, you can readily find Red Cross classes in just about every town in America.
The cost in small compared to the benefits that you can ultimately derive from the training.
Be ready when you need it the most - get proper training.
