So, before you purchase your new gutter mesh guards, have a look at our tips to determine if your home needs some roof and gutter care.

How old is your roof?

Experts say that an average roof will last between 20-25 years. This obviously depends on its environment and the type of roof but if your roof is getting to that age, have it checked by a professional for cracks and loose tiles.

Have you got any broken tiles?

Broken tiles are usually the main culprit for leaks in your roof. The good thing is, they are usually easy to spot and easy to replace!
Make sure you check your roof regularly for broken tiles because if you leave them too long they will cause more irreversible damage to your roof.

Are the valleys in your roof in-tact?

Valleys are one of the most important areas of your roof. Snow and rain flow through valleys and into gutters. If the valley is compromised you could be susceptible to leaks.

Are there bits of tiles in your gutter?

Tile granules in the gutters - Look in your gutters to see if they are loaded up with granules. Roofs tend to lose more granules toward the end of their life cycle.

Daylight through the roof boards

If you can see light coming through your roof, it's probably damaged. By checking for for moisture in the insulation you will be able to determine where the water is coming in from.

While some of these issues are small and easy to fix, some may require a lot more work or a whole new roof! Still, it is important to get these issues checked out before installing a gutter guard system as we want your home to be properly protected.
