    Disassemble the Heater

    • Turn the kerosene heater off and allow the heater to cool before disassembling the heater. Open the door to the compartment where the fuel can is located. Pull the fuel can out of the kerosene heater and set it aside. Open the wire grate on the front of the kerosene heater and remove the glass chimney. Pull the front wick control knob off of the control shaft. The cabinet secures to the base of the heater using retaining screws around the bottom of the sides. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the retaining screws. Lift on the rear of the cabinet and maneuver the cabinet around the wind shield and off the heater base.

    Remove Old Wick

    • Remove the wind shield from the top of the wick assembly. The wind shield connects to the wick assembly with a single screw at the top. The electric ignition connects to the front of the assembly with two screws. Remove the screws and set the ignition to the rear of the heater without stressing the wires.

Unscrew the wing nuts at the base of the heater assembly to disconnect the wick and wick adjuster from the bottom of the assembly. It is a good idea to have a plastic bag or plastic container nearby to place the old wick. Kerosene is soaked into the wick and having a container nearby will keep spills to a minimum. Pull the wick adjuster up to separate the wick sleeve and pull the old wick off of the wick sleeve.

    Install New Wick

    • Read the instructions on the wick package. Most wicks have several black lines around the top portion. These are guidelines for the wick placement for different makes and models of wicks. Find your model on the wick package directions to determine which alignment line is correct for your kerosene heater.

Place the new wick around the adjustment sleeve with the appropriate black line at the top of the sleeve. Press the sides of the wick firmly over the retaining teeth on the wick adjuster sleeve. Position the wick adjuster over the sleeve and wick and insert the wick adjuster back over the base of the heater. Secure the adjuster to the base with the wing nuts. Reassemble the kerosene heater and allow the wick to soak for at least one hour before lighting.
