How to Plant Large Bulbs
- 1). Measure the large bulb with a ruler. Measure from the pointed end to the rounded end of the bulb. If the bulb already has roots or a stem, do not include them in the measurement.
- 2). Double the measurement of the bulb. Remember this number.
- 3). Use a trowel to dig a hole that is at least as deep as the doubled measurement of the bulb. The hole should be slightly wider than the bulb--just enough so the bulb easily fits into the hole.
- 4). Place the bulb into the hole with the pointed end facing up.
- 5). Cover the bulb with soil.
- 6). Water the bulb when the ground is dry. Bulbs grow best in moist, but not saturated, soil.
