Cool Room Ideas for Teenage Girls

Teenagers need a haven where they can get away from the world, adults and parents, which is usually their bedroom -- the only part of the world they can have complete control over. The bedroom should be a place where a teenage girl can unwind and be herself, which means making it look the way she wants it to look.

Collage Room

Many teenage girls enjoy looking at magazines. If yours is one of them, take advantage of this fact to create a theme room at no cost. Spend a few days cutting pictures out of magazines and attaching them to the walls. Start in one corner at floor level and work your way across the entire wall. Ask your daughter to get old magazines from her friends so you don't have to buy them all. Invite the friends over, and turn it into a collage party so it won't take you and your daughter months to finish it. Attach the pictures with clear tape rather than glue so you don't ruin the wall.

Lots of girls like flowers. If your teenage daughter is one of them, decorate her room in a flower theme. This theme can range from subtle to over the top and can include everything from flowered drapes and bedclothes to vases full of real flowers. Make the theme into an art project by painting flowers on the wall. If your daughter is interested in botany and science, you can make the theme more than mere aesthetics by researching and painting all the different types of flowers that grow in your area. You can complement the paintings by pressing examples of each flower and making them into framed wall hangings for the room.

Challenge your teenage daughter to find out how cheaply you can outfit her room together. Spend time going to secondhand shops, rummage sales, yard sales and flea markets to find cheap treasures. Shopping together will give you quality time with your daughter and also potentially save you money. Begin with a few pieces of old and funky furniture, such as an oak dresser on casters and a brass bed. Build up from these basic items with vintage dolls, 19th century photographs and old books. Include a braided rug on the floor if you find one. The room can be a work in progress until your daughter leaves home, at which point she'll have some special items to start her own household with.
