Selecting the right accessories for your wedding day

So you're getting married - you've picked out the perfect dress, found the perfect shoes and chosen a hairstyle. But what about all the little accessories that make you look perfect? There's many different options, starting with the headpiece. You could choose a simple lace vale attached to a hairclip. Or for a bit of extra bling you could use a tiara. However the new emerging trend is to wear a fascinator. Fascinators range from quite simple - just a simple flower clipped  into your hair - to moderately elaborate with a silk flower & feathers and if you like, diamontes. On the grand side of things some fascinators could cover your whole head for example a birdcage style fascinator. You may even like to choose to attach a vale to your fascinator for a more traditional look.

Moving on from hairpieces it is also customary to wear some simple jewellery. Traditionally brides often wore a simple string of pearls. These days pearls can be bought quite inexpensively, a strand of fresh water pearls might only set you back around $50. Or alternatively you might like to go for something with a bit more bling. Old-fashioned crystal necklaces are quite popular as well, so are diamonte necklaces teamed with gold or silver. The choice is yours, but the the key is to keep it simple. Likewise you may wish to wear a matching bracelet. However you don't want to outshine the wedding dress with your jewellery so simplicity really is the key.

Next, although not strictly an accessory, you will probably want to choose some attractive lingerie to wear under your wedding dress. Likewise you will need to find a garter - you may even like to make your own as these can be quite simple. Lace is traditional and is almost always white or matching the colour of your wedding dress.

Finally one of the most important aspects of your wedding day outfit is the shoes. Although probably mostly hidden underneath your long wedding dress, most brides spend a long time looking for the perfect pair of shoes. High heels are probably the most common however many women choose to wear flats particularly if the groom is on the shorter side. It can be very difficult to find the perfect pair of bridal shoes. Plain white or ivory satin or silk shoes can be found quite easily so we suggest you you use a pair of shoe clips to dress up the otherwise plain shoes. This way you can customise your shoes to match the look of your dress and other accessories.  For example if you're going for a vintage look you may choose a vintage style of shoe clips made from bronze, pearls and diamontes. Or if you're going for a more modern look with glitzy bling you may choose to go for a simple silver and crystal clip Shoe clips come in every size from very small and subtle too large and extravagant.

Another important thing to consider with regards to bridal accessories is the bridesmaids. You will want to keep their accessories quite basic - they should not compete with the bride! Keep bling to a minimum on bridesmaids and stick to using one or two colours instead of crystals or diamontes. Stick to large coloured flowers for both the hair and the shoes. You can also buy shoe clips in fabric flowers, these are perfect for the bridesmaids. You may also wish to use a matching clip in fabric flower for the hair.

It takes some effort to coordinate the right accessories for your special day. However, the time is worth it as it is these little touches that will make your wedding perfect.
