Buying and Using Outdoor Carpet
Since outdoor carpet comes in a wide variety of styles and colors, including individual tiles you can install yourself, you will have no problem finding the carpet that is right for you. There are other factors you should take into consideration when choosing your carpet.
Location of your new carpet will be a major point as carpets are manufactured for specific areas such as the pool area which will have more moisture placed on them and patio areas which are usually covered by a roof. Patio areas tend to have less moisture fall upon the carpets and therefore can be covered in a lower grade carpet rather than a higher quality carpet that will be required for a pool area.
For all outdoor carpets, choose a carpet that is resistant to moisture, mold, sunlight, stains and is fast drying. If the area you are installing carpet in is prone to frequent moisture, choose a carpet that comes with a marine backing. A marine backing consists of olefin (a synthetic resin material) for the top layer and a bottom layer of rubber. This will help keep water off the floors below the carpet. Pricing ranges from $9.80 per yard to $19.25 per yard and that usually includes installation as well. Carpet tiles come in tiles of one square foot and prices range on these from $.98 to $2.99 each. Carpet tiles are self installed and do not come with marine backings.
The best thing about outdoor carpet tiles is that is can be cleaned easily by sweeping or power washing with soap and water hose. Easy to clean and beautiful to look at, choosing and using outdoor carpet for your next project will be the smartest move you make!
