    • 1). Support stephanotis outdoors with a strong trellis. It is a tall--5 to 15 feet--fast-growing vine that needs lots of support as it gets larger. It is OK to stake the vine when it is young, but older plants will require more support.

    • 2). Grow indoor potted plants in a sunny location. Indoor and outdoor cultivation requires 6 to 8 hours of sunlight, but outdoor plants will also do well with bright shade. Germinating seeds should not be covered, but allowed access to as much light as possible.

    • 3). Grow stephanotis as a potted plant in temperatures cooler than Zone 10, where the average low temperature is below 30 degrees Fahrenheit. That way it can easily be moved indoors during the winter and outdoors during the summer.

    • 4). Allow potted plants to become slightly rootbound as they age. Stephanotis flowers abundantly from April to October, and older, root-bound plants produce more flowers.

    • 5). Promote flowering indoors by providing a winter rest period. Keep the plants on the dry side during the winter and allow them to wither slightly before increasing their water in the early spring. When growth resumes, prune to remove dead wood and to control the size of the plant. According to North Carolina State University, stephanotis can grow from 5 to 15 feet tall. Indoor growers will want to keep it short, around 5 feet tall.

    • 6). Keep the plant's soil moist during the growing period and relatively dry during its winter rest. The soil should be very well draining. Set pots on trays of gravel or pebbles to prevent the pot from sitting in water.

    • 7). Use a humidifier indoors and keep the temperature at or above 65 degrees Fahrenheit.
