Water bottles are bottled using computer-assisted equipment that positions the water bottles and releases the right amounts of water and air to ensure that the bottles do not contain contaminants. All parts of the machine that come in contact with the bottle or the water are made out of stainless steel and are completely sanitized. These machines are capable of producing bottled water that is completely safe to drink. - Water bottling machines rinse out the bottles so that they do not contain any contaminants. As the water is washed through the bottle, the bottle is turned 180 degrees. The bottle is upside down so that gravity can cause the water to fall out efficiently. Afterward, air is blown through the bottle.
- The machine turns the bottle right side up and fills the bottle with water. The machine fills all of the bottles in the same amounts and will not release water unless there is a bottle underneath. Finally, the bottles are capped in a way that seals them off from exposure to contaminants, using a pressure plug.
- A worm unit arranges the bottle so that it is in proper place when the bottle is filled. A guiding system makes sure that the bottle does not move out of place, causing water to be wasted. A unit feeds caps to the pressure plug so that the caps can be placed on the bottle. A bottle conveyor moves the bottles along so that a large number can be efficiently produced. The parts produced for the water bottling machine are interchangeable, so that they can be easily replaced when they become damaged through normal wear and tear.
- Water is purified using membrane filtration, which removes organic impurities and metal. The filters include multimedia filters, water softeners and carbon filters. Ozonization breaks down organic constituents so that the water does not release an unpleasant odor. Bacteria is killed through one of two processes. Ozonization is the releasing of ozone gases into the water, which kill off the bacteria. However, the ozone gases eventually revert back into oxygen, making them safe for human consumption. The process of distillation heats the water to a point where the bacteria are all killed and the water evaporates and is then condensed back into water.
- Packaging equipment cover the finished bottles of water with a sheet of plastic so that they can be quickly brought to market. A gravity film feed provides a steady amount of plastic and the sealing sections of the equipment use programmable logic. Products are often more marketable after having plastic added to them because they can contain the company logo.
