How to Repair Black Furniture
- 1). Pour 2 to 3 tbsp. of padding lacquer into a small mixing bowl. Use enough lacquer to cover the damaged area twice; the actual amount you need will vary based on the damage your furniture has incurred.
- 2). Add black blending powder to your padding lacquer. Add the powder slowly so that it dissolves as soon as it touches the lacquer. Stir the mixture with a toothpick or small spoon to ensure it fully dissolves. Add powder until the lacquer has taken on the color of your furniture.
- 3). Paint the lacquer onto the damaged area of the furniture with a fine-tipped paintbrush. Cover only the damaged area. Allow the repair to dry overnight and inspect it in the morning. Apply a second coat if necessary. Allow the final coat to dry for 24 hours before continuing.
- 4). Apply a thin coat of untinted lacquer to the repaired area. Allow this layer to dry for 24 hours.
- 5). Lightly sand the area with 0000 steel wool if the repaired section is glossier than the rest of the piece. Sand for only a few seconds at a time and then inspect your work. Only sand until the repair area matches the rest of the furniture. Excessive rubbing will cause scratches or wipe away the lacquer you just added.
