One of the most common symptoms of tinnitus is the constant ear ringing that accompanies this condition.
As difficult as it may be to believe, according to the ATA and the CTA, there are over 12 million Americans and an estimated 360,000 Canadians suffering from this irritating illness.
Living with this constant ear ringing impairs the patient's ability to function normally on a day to day basis and can interfere with their job performance and their ability to sleep at night.
This condition can even disrupt their social life which only intensifies their feelings of stress because of not being able to live their lives as they did prior to acquiring this condition.
One of the most frustrating things about having this problem is the fact that there is no cure for tinnitus so your only recourse is to find different remedies and treatments for dealing with the constant ear ringing.
The problem is the instances of tinnitus are on the rise because of the constant trauma our ears are subject to from our noisy surroundings.
We are also subjected to higher levels of stress on a daily basis which is also a known contributor to this ailment.
Unfortunately, because of the continuing popularity of MP3 players and iPods which are being used by younger segments of the population all the time we may soon be seeing this condition affect more young people than ever before with cases of hearing impairment, tinnitus and even deafness.
People must be educated at earlier ages about the damage these devices can inflict with prolonged use at certain volume levels.
Of course this will be a difficult message to get across to teenagers who see themselves as being invincible and who aren't about to turn down the volume on these gadgets.
This is an important point for all of us to keep in mind, no matter what our age, the next time we put on our head phones to listen to our favorite music; simply turn down the volume and we'll diminish our chances of contracting ear ringing tinnitus.
The problem the traditional medical community is faced with when confronted with a case of tinnitus is the fact that it isn't a sickness but is the result of some underlying cause of which there are several.
If you happen to be one of the unfortunate people who have tinnitus your best approach is to try to pin point the cause so you can attack the underlying problem.
Once the cause has been determined you then either eliminate it or find a remedy or a treatment for it.
Constant ear ringing tinnitus is a growing problem in our society and our only approach for now is to preach prevention by being constantly aware of our surroundings and by trying to reduce the noise and stress levels we're being subjected to on a daily basis.
