Matthew Schmitz M.D., is About.com's Guide to Prostate Cancer.He is a resident physician at Massachusetts General Hospital and is a clinical fellow at Harvard Medical School in Boston.

Experience


Dr. Schmitz has worked in a variety of settings to educate patients and their families about prostate cancer.He has been involved with the care of many men afflicted with prostate cancer.

He has worked to push the field of medicine forward through research including research exploring the optimization of prostate cancer treatment.

He also has personal experience with prostate cancer.Numerous male family members of Dr. Schmitz have been afflicted with this disease including his father and grandfather.This has added a personal dimension to his writing on prostate cancer.

Dr. Schmitz is a member of the American Medical Association (AMA), the Massachusetts Medical Society, the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society, and several other physician organizations.

Education


Dr. Schmitz received his M.D. from the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine.He has completed additional studies at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York and at the University of Washington Cancer Center in Seattle.
