Since the creation of Israel as an independent state in 1948, the United Nations (UN) has issued countless resolutions against Israel. Anti-Israel countries see this as evidence of Israel's bad human rights record while pro-Israel entities view these resolutions to reflect a kind of systematic adaptation and often times recycle admonitions against the only Jewish state in the UN.

It is therefore no secret that the United States is the strongest supporter of Israel as the Jewish homeland in Palestine. In fact, the relationship of Israel and the United States started within minutes after Israel declared its independence on May 15, 1948 when President Harry Truman recognized Israel as an independent country.

Although Israel is a small country geographically, but its military strength is one of the world's strongest and highly developed. The influence and support of the United States to Israel has helped Israel achieve that status. Therefore, even with a young history as a country, Israel has been able to successfully fight many wars against most of its Arab neighbors—from Lebanon to the north, Jordan to the east, Egypt to the south and many other Arab nations as far as Iraq who conspired against Israel.

On the same token, the United States has also played an instrumental role in peace negotiations between Arabs and Israel for many decades. This has resulted in a series of peace treaties and accords. The Camp David Accords is one of the most important peace accords Israel has had with the Arabs. .

In this peace treaty, the United States witnessed the initiatives of Israel and Egypt to come up with a peaceful resolution regarding their respective disputes. After twelve days of secret negotiations at Camp David, the peace treaty was signed by Egyptian President Anwar El Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin and witnessed by United States President Jimmy Carter on September 17, 1978 at the White House.

As a result of the peace treaty, Israel and Egypt laid out three important agreements.

a) To establish an autonomous or self-governing authority in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

b) To withdraw Israeli armed forces from Sinai and return Sinai to Egypt.

c) Unites States was to give both Israel and Egypt annual subsidies.
