Using Fire Safely When You Go Camping
Have you ever been camping at night and had the sounds of your campfire put you to sleep? Some of you would say yes to this question. The soft sounds of these twigs that you have put in the campfire can make this setting so comfortable that you might find yourself laying down and falling asleep. Most of the time when one of you go on a camping trip you do this to enjoy nature, but you really need to make sure that you follow all of the rules set by the campgrounds.
When you go camping, never make your fireplace so big that you can not control it and always have a fire extinguisher with you or water close by just in case. You will never want to put your tent to close to the fire and never go to sleep with the fire burning unless it is absolutely necessary. Keep your trash picked up and put it in the trash cans so no unwanted animals could spread it all over your camp. If the cans are too full, put these trash bags in your trunk to get rid of later as this is another way to keep these animals from getting into them. Also you should pack several blankets to have on hand if the weather turns colder.
If it does turn cold suddenly and if you do not have these blankets, you might try to keep warm by building a bigger fire but doing this just is not a good idea. The wind could pick up sending the ash from the fire in all directions and catching whatever it lands on fire. If you have these blankets just cover up, but if you do not, you might try to sleep in your car. Once you go to bed down for the night check your fire to make sure that all of the coals are out. If you find some burning still, just use some water to put out the last.
If you happen to have a wildfire get started, this can get out of hand very quickly and you will need to stay calm. Go to the nearest phone and call the park ranger or call the nearest fire station and tell them about the fire and where it is located. Then you will need to notify all the the other campers around you to make sure that they and get to safety. Some of these fires might get started by nature, so you will just need to be on your toes.
