Cystic acne is the most painful and harshest type of acne.
The cause for their occurrence is the same as any ordinary acne but the infection is more severe in this case.
They are caused by the oil and dirt in the skin pores, hormonal imbalance, genetics, lack of hygiene, etc.
In this type of acne cysts are formed and are filled with white pus like substance.
These acne cysts may spread or grow in size if not treated.
The area surrounding the cyst will be swollen and red.
This type of acne is not uncommon but less people suffer from this as compared to the other types of acnes.
It can occur in any body but mostly it is the young men and teenage boys who falls victim to cystic acnes.
Cystic acne causes much pain to the person and on top of that the person may feel embarrassed at the ugly picture of himself/herself.
People are likely to suffer from low self esteem and lack self confidence.

oThe person will have to take some oral antibiotics which will be effective in killing the bacteria and help prevent future acnes.
oIsotretinoin is another effective medicine for severe cases such as cystic acne.
It is used in cases where other treatments fail but they are not free from side effects.
oOral contraceptives are used by women who are suffering from cystic acne.
oSurgical excision and drainage is the method where the doctor makes an excision on the skin and extracts the infected material.
oIntralesional corticosteroid injection is another method where this medication is injected into the lesion to reduce the inflammation and shrink the blemish.
Physical treatments such as laser therapy, photodynamic therapy, chemical therapy, etc can also be used to treat cystic acne.
Those who suffer from this particular acne have the risk of being left with permanent scars and this is why the treatments have to be more careful.
