Damp Towel

• After loading the dryer, place the damp washcloth or towel inside 10 minutes before you turn off the appliance. The dampness keeps the air in the dryer moist as the clothes dry. When using a damp towel, always set the dryer to the lowest heat setting to prevent the washcloth from drying out completely. Static electricity thrives best in dry air, and the wet washcloth or towel keeps the air moist in the dryer. White Vinegar

• Prevent static cling from occurring by adding 1/4 cup of white distilled vinegar to the washing machine. The white vinegar prevents static cling similarly to fabric softeners because it coats the clothing and changes the electrical charge. Avoid adding bleach to the wash cycle whenever you add vinegar to prevent a dangerous reaction from occurring. When you place a load of laundry into the washer, do not fill it too full because the clothes will not become clean and the vinegar may not come into contact with all of the laundry.
  
  

Separate Laundry

• According to "Scientific American," separating the natural-fiber clothes from synthetic fabrics helps keep static from forming. Synthetic fabrics consist of clothing made from nylon, acrylic, spandex or polyester. Natural fabrics include cotton, wool, hemp and cashmere. Instead of placing the clothes in the dryer, hang the synthetic clothing to dry outdoors or inside the home. Synthetic materials do not hold onto moisture, which means they typically dry faster.
  
  

Damp Hands

• The transfer of static electricity causes clothes to cling and stick together. Keep the static from making clothes stick together with a simple solution. Place a bowl of water near the dryer and dip your hands into it. Dry the excess water off your hands so that they only remain damp. When you remove clothes from the dryer, shake them to release the static electricity. Dampen your hands when they become dry so that the static does not cause the clothes to cling.
