A good leader is always an asset to an organization. This is precisely why organizations are always eager to hire employees who have good leadership skills. If you want to attain success in the corporate world, a leader's job should be your goal.

An individual cannot become a good leader overnight. Proper education, innate business knowledge and practice are some of the factors required to become a leader. According to the business experts, good leaders have an inherent leadership quality within them. With the right grooming and skill sets, they hone themselves to become nominal heads in organizations.

In what follows are general tips on how to lead important business meetings and discussions:

1. Write the agenda of the meeting. Remember until you are not clear about the purpose of the meeting, it will become difficult for you to conduct it properly. Once you have decided upon the agenda, note it down somewhere.
Tip: if possible take several printouts (stating the agenda of the meeting along with the date and time) and distribute it to your team members. Try to distribute these copies at least a day before the meeting. Doing this will help your team members to prepare thoroughly for the meeting.

2. Take the attendance and start the meeting on time. According to the experts, it is advisable to keep a written record of the topics discussed in the meeting. Assign one of your team members to take down the minutes of the meeting. Remember by forming the minutes of the meeting, you can always refer to it later.

3. Before you start, do mention that you would appreciate the interaction of all the team members. This is one of easy ways to encourage the team members to participate in the meeting.

4. If you have multiple agendas on hand, try to focus on them one at a time. Start with the one that holds the maximum importance. A systematic approach will help you to proceed with the meeting smoothly without missing on any of the essential points.

5. It might happen that the discussion in the meeting shifts to other topics. In such a situation, be sure to make a note of the topic. Include it in the minutes of the meeting as well. If you have time you can discuss it then or else you can make it the subject of the next meeting.
Note: before you conclude the meeting, be sure to summarize all the agendas once. Do take in the feedback of all your team members.

6. Do not forget to distribute the minutes of the meeting 1-2 days after the meeting. Refer to the minutes of the meeting to implement your work strategies.
