    • 1). Pot your anthurium in a mixture of equal parts peat moss, perlite and pine bark. This growing medium provides the plant the coarse texture it prefers and offers good drainage.

    • 2). Irrigate your plant as soon as the soil surface becomes dry. When anthurium completely dry out, their development is delayed.

    • 3). Place your anthurium plant where you can maintain the temperature between 80 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit. According to "Sunset Western Garden Book," anthurium's development stops below 65 degrees Fahrenheit and damage occurs below 50 degrees Fahrenheit.

    • 4). Give your plant a full day of indirect sunlight. If a sunny location isn't available, move the plant under a grow lamp or fluorescent lamp. Lack of light halts blooming and distorts new leaves.

    • 5). Move your anthurium plant to a humid room, such as the bathroom, if you live in a dry climate. This plant thrives in high humidity. If the bathroom isn't a good option, use a humidifier in the room. In addition, spray the leaves with water daily.

    • 6). Feed your plant a 21-7-14 fertilizer diluted to one-quarter strength once a month.
