    • 1). Measure the length of the curtain starting at the curtain rod above the window to the desired bottom point. Increase the measurement by four inches for the top and bottom hems.

    • 2). Measure the width of the window. Add six inches to the measurement if you want the curtain to lay flat. Add 12 inches to the measurement if you want the curtain slightly gathered.

    • 3). Cut two sections of fabric using the length and width measurements. Sew two lengths of fabric together if the width is larger than one length of fabric. Use a 1/4-inch seam and press the seam open.

    • 4). Hem each side of the curtain by folding 1/4-inch of fabric to the wrong side. Fold another 1/4-inch to make a clean hem and pin to hold in place. Sew next to the inside fold with a straight stitch.

    • 5). Hem the bottom of the curtain by folding 1/2-inch of fabric to the wrong side. Fold another 1/2-inch to the wrong side to make a clean hem and pin to hold in place. Sew next to the inside fold with a straight stitch.

    • 6). Hem and make the curtain rod tube by folding 1/2-inch of fabric toward the wrong side. Fold another 2-1/2 inches toward the wrong side and pin to hold in place. Sew next to the lower fold to close the tube and hem.

    • 7). Slide the curtain onto the hanging rod through the tube created at the top. Hang the curtain over the window.
