    • 1). Stop mowing the area that is afflicted with dallisgrass for at least two weeks.

    • 2). Fill a garden sprayer with a post-emergent herbicide containing monosodium methyl arsenate, also known as MSMA, or calcium methylarsonic acid, commonly called CMA. Add the amount of water as indicated by the herbicide packaging, and place the cap on the sprayer bottle.

    • 3). Direct the nozzle of the garden sprayer at the clumps of dallisgrass, and spray the plant until it is covered in herbicide and the product drips off of the leaves.

    • 4). Re-apply the post-emergent herbicide in the same manner every two to three weeks for a total of three times.

    • 5). Wait until late winter or early spring and purchase a pre-emergent herbicide that is designed to be effective against crabgrass. Place the herbicide into a garden sprayer and mix with water per the packaging instructions.

    • 6). Spray the entire surface of the lawn area with the solution.

    • 7). Water the soil with a 1/2 inch of water immediately after applying the pre-emergent herbicide. This will soak the herbicide into the soil, where it will kill any existing dallisgrass seeds.
