Cuban Tourism is performing well, says Cuban Tourism Minister

Manuel Marrero, Cuban Minister of Tourism, underlined the favourable performance of the island in the tourism industry during a conference held at FITUR 2012 in Madrid. The yearly tourism event is the perfect arena to show the country's tourism attributes and attract potential tourists to spend holidays in Cuba.

In a meeting with professionals of the tourism sector, Minister Marrero explained that the Caribbean nation closed 2011 with 2 716 317 foreign tourists, a number that increased by 7,3 per cent compared to last year's figures.

He also added that although the world is going through difficult times due to the global economic crisis, the island nation's stance has been that of continuing to move forward cautiously, but firmly.

Cuba's efforts in the tourism sector are aimed at working harder on the diversification of its offering and continuing to improve the quality of services across Cuba hotels and resorts, with a high level of investments in hotel facilities.

The Caribbean island offers travellers lots of opportunities through a perfect integration of the sun and sand holiday experience with excellent options to enjoy eco-friendly, cultural, historical, medical holidays in Cuba.

The country will also be committed to developing a more diverse tourist industry, in which foreign visitors can get to experience the island's rich historical and cultural heritage, while offering high standards of quality service, comfort and facilities.

Julio Velazco, Deputy Director of the National Office of Tourist Information (Infotur), explained the important role played by the office in providing travellers with designated information centres, offering information about the island's fascinating attractions and in facilitating details of their interest to visitors so that tourists could make the most of their Cuba holidays.

The country has 28 information centred placed in Cuba hotels, travel agencies, customs, ports and immigration offices, among others. A website is also available and is a useful virtual portal and online tool to guide helping foreign tourists select different holiday products and services, including city and beach offers, airports, car rentals, hotel accommodation, etc.

Over 2 million people travel to Cuba from all over the world every year, especially from Canada, United Kingdom, Italy, France, Spain, Germany, Argentina, Russia, the United States and Mexico, making tourism the second main source of income after services export.

With its favourable climate, beautiful and pristine beaches, friendly people, colonial architecture, distinct cultural history and rich traditions, the island has long been an attractive destination for many holidaymakers, who come year after year to enjoy the unique beauty and charm only Cuba holidays can offer.
