How to Build a Shot-Glass Shelf
- 1). Arrange the six 1-foot boards; two boards are the side boards, and the other four boards are the shelves. Determine the appropriate spacing between the various boards based on the heights of the individual glasses that will be stored on each shelf, and mark the side boards with lines, leaving at least an inch of head space for each shelf. Number the shelves from top to bottom based on this arrangement.
- 2). Disassemble the shelf and position the shot glasses evenly on the shelves for which they are intended. Trace around the bottom of the glass using the pencil to mark the individual placement of the glasses. Use the drill and a drill bit of the same diameter as each shot glass to drill out an individual place for each glass, about 1/8 inch deep through the area previously circled. Ensure that the drilled space is evenly positioned between the front and rear of the 3-inch board.
- 3). Rearrange the six boards in their original positions. Predrill two evenly spaced holes at each junction through the side boards and into the shelf boards. Attach the boards together using 1-inch wood screws, tightening all boards partway before tightening fully to ensure a good fit.
- 4). Flip the shelf over and position the rear board on the back of the shelf so that it is aligned properly. Gently tap the trip nails into place every 3 inches around the perimeter of the rear board, going all the way through the rear board and into the shelf board. Put one nail into the rear board in the center of the shelf, viewing the shelves from the side and making any markings necessary to align the nail with one of the shelf boards properly.
