- 1). Choose a paint stripper safe for indoor use. Examples include soy-based gel strippers. Check the label before buying to see all safety precautions you should take.
- 2). Place painter's tape on drawer surfaces near the drawer pulls to prevent the product from dripping or splashing where you do not want it.
- 3). Put on safety goggles and rubber gloves. Open the container of paint stripper.
- 4). Dip a small paintbrush in the paint stripper. Use the brush to apply it to the drawer pulls.
- 5). Give the product time to work on the paint. Thin layers of paint will usually loosen quickly, but it also depends on the brand of stripper you are using. Expect to wait at least 5 minutes, but probably longer.
- 6). Gently scrape paint off with a small putty knife or rub it off with steel wool. Wet a rag with either water or the product suggested on the stripper's label, and wipe it over the drawer pulls afterward to remove more paint remnants and excess product.
