How to Dial Long Distance to Germany
- 1). Find the phone number of the party you want to call in Germany. You may be able to locate your party's number using an online phone directory (see links in Resources below).
- 2). Understand how German telephone numbers are organized. Area codes can be from 2 to 5 digits long. Larger cities have the shortest area codes. For example, the area code for Berlin is 30, while Wiesbaden is 611. Local numbers can be anywhere from 3 to 9 digits in length. If you are dialing a cell phone number, you must add a 1 in front of the area code and phone number.
- 3). Shop around for the best rates to dial long-distance to Germany. If you can, avoid using calling cards unless they have a low guaranteed rate. (Some will charge you several dollars a minute.) Your phone service provider probably has an international calling plan that can save you money if you need to call Germany on a regular basis. You should expect to pay 6 to 10 cents a minute.
- 4). Dial long distance to Germany by first dialing the exit code for the United States, which is 011. Follow this with the country code for Germany, which is 49. Then dial the area code and phone number. For example, to call someone in Wiesbaden, you would dial 011-49-611 plus the 3-to-9-digit local number.
