How to Replace Sun Visor Parts in Ford Explorer
- 1). Determine if your sun visor is held in place with a Phillips head fastener or Torx head fastener. You may need to remove a trim cover to access the fasteners. The trim cover can be popped out using a small pocket screwdriver.
- 2). Unscrew the visor fasteners and lower the visor. If the visor has any power accessories, use the pocket screwdriver to unclip the wiring harness from the visor.
- 3). Compare your replacement visor to your existing one to make sure the fasteners anchor pattern is the same. It is also best to compare the wiring harness connections at this juncture as well, just to make sure the new one will attach to the ceiling and connect to the Explorer's wiring before you begin to install it.
- 4). Position the replacement sun visor and start one or more of the fasteners into their mounts by hand. Once you have them in far enough, tighten them with the appropriate tool.
- 5). Clip the wiring harness on the new visor to the Explorer, if applicable.
- 6). Move the visor into all of its various positions and verify any electronic parts work correctly. If it does not move as designed, or the electronics fail to function, re-examine your fasteners and wiring connection to make sure they are secure. If it still fails to operate properly, return it to the store where you purchased it and obtain a replacement.
