Creative Ways to Propose to Your Girlfriend

    • Capturing her heart and making her dreams come true is a tall order. Expectations are high, and there's pressure to create an unforgettable moment because you'll celebrate this story over and over again.

The answer is to think about your soulmate's personality. What are the special memories you've created and what makes her the woman that you want to spend the rest of your life with? Use those moments as a foundation for your proposal and you're on your way.

For example, if she's a private person, don't propose in front of her future mother-in-law; instead, think of more intimate settings, such as at home or a bed & breakfast. On the other hand, if she's outgoing, then a grandiose proposal might be in order, such as a dinner cruise or gala museum event.

Meet your girlfriend for drinks at a fancy hotel bar, says theKnot.com. "When it's time to go, casually mention that you've already reserved a room for the night. When you open the hotel room door, have roses, candles and champagne all set up---everything for a perfect surprise proposal."

After a delicious dinner and before the Broadway show you've both been looking forward to, slip the ring box into her coat pocket. Then ask her to check her pockets for something.

Ready for a pet? Visit a pet store or local animal shelter, and while she's cooing over the dogs or cats, tie the ring loosely around its collar. Or have your proposal printed on dog tags and ask her to attach it to the collar.

According to Propose.ie, "The three most popular days of the year to get engaged are Valentine's Day, Christmas and New Year's."

When you're picking out a Christmas tree, place the ring on a tree branch and call her over, telling her you've found the perfect tree. Or hang a miniature stocking on the tree with the ring inside. When all the presents are unwrapped, mention the new ornament and tell her it's her last gift.

If you celebrate Hanukkah, put the engagement ring around the first candle on the menorah and wait for her to notice.

Kick off the holiday season, during Thanksgiving. If she would love for the family to witness the moment, then ask to say a prayer before you eat. Get down on one knee, in front of the family and turkey and propose (before the food gets cold!) You can let the family in on the secret or surprise everyone.

Another idea is to create a basket for Easter with things she loves. Include a paperback from her favorite author, music or a movie DVD, chocolate, a gift card to dinner or a clothing store... Most importantly, stuff the ring inside a plastic egg.
