- 1). Connect the USB end of the serial adapter cable to an open USB port on your computer. Depending on your computer mode, USB ports are located on the back and front of the computer. If you do not have a USB to RS232 Serial Adapter Cable, purchase one.
- 2). Connect the other end of the serial adapter cable to the RS-232 serial port on your serial printer, scanner or other device.
- 3). Turn on the connected device. Your computer should automatically recognize it as a new hardware. If you have a drivers installation disc, insert it into the CD-ROM drive on your computer and follow the setup instructions to install the drivers on your computer.
