The task of implementing a Membership Software solution requires plenty of homework.
REQUIREMENTS SPECIFICATION FOR A MEMBERSHIP MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE APPLICATION Have you written up a 'requirements specification' for your organisation? What is it that will make your organisation more productive? What reports or mailing lists do you require? Do you have to report to a board of directors or a management committee? Do you want a one button solution to providing statistics? And the list goes on.
DATA The above questions are just a start.
Now we have covered what it needs to be able to do, lets look at the how to we want it to work.
Are there privacy concerns with the data? Is the data going to be shared by administrators and members? Should the data be hosted on a internal network or a stand-alone PC or on a Web server? Should the data be accessible from anywhere in the world? APPLICATION From the above questions you can start looking at software that can meet these requirements.
Should we have a windows application? Some windows applications can be a good starting point.
Traditionally, windows applications running in-house are faster and more secure than running over an internet.
However, as the internet line speeds are getting faster, the Web applications or Windows application using a Web Server as a database are getting more popular.
More and more employees are working off-site, so a solution that allows workers to access data remotely can be important.
This then also allows members to gain access to their membership details (if allowed).
This access can be via the internet to the Employers network or to the Web server.
