    • 1). Turn on the printer and pull the control panel forward, then raise the plastic cover by lifting straight up from the front. The cover tilts toward the back in the upright position. Wait for the printer carriage to stop moving. The two ink cartridges will stop in the loading position near the center of the printer.

    • 2). Pull each cartridge forward and lift up to remove from the printer, then close the printer lid and control panel.

    • 3). Press the "Power" button in the upper left corner of the control panel to turn off the printer, then press it again to switch it back on. If a "1203 error" message appears on the LCD screen on the control panel, the problem is with the printer itself and repairs may be necessary. If the screen displays "Color Cartridge Missing," the problem is likely a defective cartridge.

    • 4). Pull the control panel forward and raise the lid to reinstall the two ink cartridges. The color cartridge installs in the left side of the compartment. Push each cartridge back until it snaps in place.

    • 5). Close the printer cover and secure the control panel in position. If the "1203 error" message now displays, the color cartridge is defective and should be replaced.
