    • The BLS states that these workers earned a mean annual salary of $45,860 and $22.05 per hour in 2010. Those in the 90th percentile earned at or above $67,000 a year and $32.21 per hour, while those in the 50th percentile earned at or below $43,520 and $20.92 per hour. Those in the 10th percentile earned at or below $28,740 and $13.82 per hour in 2010.

    Earnings by Industry

    • The Postal Service paid the highest mean annual rate of $61,340 and $29.49 per hour in 2010. Computer and peripheral equipment manufacturing paid the second highest mean annual rate of $59,420 and $28.57 per hour in the same year. The federal executive branch paid the third highest annual salary of $57,840 and $27.81 per hour, while securities and commodity exchanges offered the fourth highest at $57,140 annually and $27.47 per hour in 2010

    Earnings by State

    • According to the BLS, New Jersey paid the highest mean annual salary of $55,300 and $26.59 per hour. New York offered the second highest mean annual rate of $55,130 and $26.51 per hour, while Maryland paid the third highest at $52,490 annually and $25.24 for an hourly rate. Connecticut paid the fourth highest mean annual salary of $52,260 and an hourly rate of $25.13 in 2010.

    Earnings by Larger Urban Areas

    • Santa Fe, New Mexico, paid the highest mean annual salary of $60,660 and $29.16 per hour in 2010. The area including New York, White Plains and Wayne in New York and New Jersey paid the second highest mean annual rate of $58,580 and $28.16 per hour. San Jose, Sunnyvale and Santa Clara, California, paid the third highest mean annual rate of $57,830 and $27.80 per hour. Bridgeport, Stamford and Norwalk, Connecticut, offered the fourth highest mean annual rate of $87,810 and $27.79 in 2010.
