- 1). Fold open the printer's exit cover and check for jammed paper. Pull out any paper that is stuck in the exit area, including small pieces stuck to the wheels. Pull up on the paper guide's tab and pull out any stuck paper you find underneath the guide, then fold the exit cover closed.
- 2). Fold down the printer's front cover by pulling up on the latch on the front of the machine. Pull out any stuck pieces of paper, making sure to spin the rollers and remove any small bits of paper stuck to them, then fold the front cover closed.
- 3). Pull out the printer's paper tray completely from the printer, then pull out any stuck paper you see inside the paper tray's cavity. Take the paper out of the tray and flip through it to make sure none of the pages are stuck together, then load the paper back into the tray.
- 4). Remove the top sheet from the paper tray and adjust the paper guides inside the tray so they press against the edge of the paper stack. Slide the paper tray back into the printer.
- 1). Check the package from the paper you are using in the printer to make sure it is labeled for use with printers. If it is not, be sure to use the correct printer paper.
- 2). Press "Troubleshooting" on the control panel, then press the "Ok" button. Press "Print Quality Problems," then press "Ok."
- 3). Press the "Remove Print Smears" on the control panel's screen, and then press the "Ok" button. Wait as the printer feeds two or three pieces of paper through the paper path to perform the cleaning process.
- 4). Run the printer's cleaning process up to three times if the problem continues. Open the door on the printer's right side panel if the problem persists, and slide out the maintenance kit.
- 5). Wipe the maintenance kit's plastic wiper with a microfiber cloth, then slide the maintenance kit back into the printer and close the door.
