Not All Measurements in Breast Augmentation can be Measured EQUALLY
Question~
Just went in for my consult yesterday with PS. He took measurements on diameter of breast- I am 12-12.5cm. So he said I would get a 11.7cm-12cm implant. I am opting for the round silicone- His recommendations were: High profile- 350-375cc Moderate plus: 275-300cc
My PS said you can only put in size that your body will allow. He seems to like the high profile for me.
Being that I am 5'2 and 105pds- I am thinking 300cc would be perfect. 350-375cc in the HP seems a little big???!! Any opinions on Moderate Plus vs. High Profile. I am afraid of being to "top heavy" Currently an A cup.
PS said most after surveying most women- they love the their results but wished they had gone a little bigger. It is so hard to determine what you want b.c. I have no frame of reference- anything new on your chest would just seem- well- bigger. Perfect results for me would be filled out and lifted breasts with some projection. Hard determine how that translates into cup size... as my PS said- I do want to make it worth my while.
Any opinions would be greatly appreciated!!! :-)

I am so glad that you are trying to work with what your breast envelope will allow - but to truly determine its limits, we must consider more than just base width. The amount of skin stretch is VERY important too. There is an illustration on our website that I know you will find helpful. Just go to http://www.thebestbreast.com and click on the articles button, then look at the illustration with the funnel. It really shows you how important stretch is to this equation. Yet, most ps don't factor it into their measurements.
You can email me at TTebbetts@plastic-surgery.com and I will send you the High Five Measurement sheet so you can check against your ps' numbers.
And I have to make a couple of comments about what your ps told you and you relayed to us in your initial post:
1. High Profile implants have some significant trade offs for very short term benefits - you can read more about them on our blog, again, just go to the breast augmentation Dallas website I listed above then to the blog and search High Profile implants
2. Patients tend to come back in and wish they had gone bigger - I have a real problem with this one - it is true, but it doesn't have to be that way. If patients understand from the beginning, preoperatively, that there are limits as to what can be put in safely, then I think even though they might, on a whim, wish they were bigger, they won't go there because they don't want the complications and trade offs that excessively large implants that push tissue past its own limits will bring on to them (excessive stretch, aging, bottoming out, traction rippling and edge visibility).
Its kind of like the responsibility we have as parents. If our kids come to us and ask us for something that we know is not in their best interest and may hurt them long term - we say NO. I think every once in a while, surgeons should have the where with all to do the same for patients!
